Kerala’s Ayurveda wellness tourism sector is experiencing its strongest growth in history, with international visitor numbers up 35% year-on-year. The state’s positioning as a global wellness destination has attracted visitors from Europe, North America, and increasingly from the Gulf countries, where Malayali communities serve as natural ambassadors for traditional Kerala healing practices.
The monsoon season (June through September) remains the prime Ayurveda treatment window. During Karkidakam, the traditional rejuvenation month, over 2,500 certified Ayurveda centres across Kerala offer specialised Panchakarma and Rasayana therapies. Leading centres in Kottakkal, Thrissur, and Thiruvananthapuram are typically booked months in advance.
The state government’s new quality certification programme has helped establish international credibility, with certified centres meeting standards recognised by wellness tourism bodies in Germany, Switzerland, and Japan. Medical tourism facilitators report a 50% increase in enquiries from Gulf-based Malayalis seeking extended treatment packages during home visits.
