The Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC) held its annual international conference in Abu Dhabi this month, bringing together representatives from 22 countries to discuss community welfare, education initiatives, and emergency response preparedness for Gulf Malayalis.
The conference adopted several resolutions including the establishment of an emergency evacuation fund for crisis situations, expanded scholarship programmes for children of low-income Gulf workers, and a digital platform connecting job seekers with verified employers to combat recruitment fraud.
Community organisations like KMCC, along with the Indian Islamic Centre, Kerala Samajam, and numerous district-level associations, form the social infrastructure that supports millions of Malayalis across the Gulf. Their role during the 2025 India-Pakistan tensions, when community networks helped coordinate information and assistance, underscored their importance.
The conference also addressed mental health support for Gulf workers, announcing partnerships with Kerala-based counselling services to provide free virtual sessions for community members experiencing isolation, work stress, or family separation difficulties.
