Thrissur Pooram 2026 drew its largest crowds in a decade, with an estimated 1.5 million people gathering at the Thekkinkadu Maidan to witness the spectacular Kudamattam umbrella ceremony, the rival processions of Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu temples, and the thundering fireworks finale that lit up the sky past midnight.
This year’s edition was notable for enhanced crowd management and medical services, with the district administration deploying drone surveillance and mobile medical units across the festival perimeter. International tourism interest has grown sharply, with hotel bookings in Thrissur district up 40% compared to 2024.
The festival’s economic impact on Thrissur district is estimated at over Rs 500 crore, supporting thousands of local businesses from hospitality to handicrafts. Community organisations from across the diaspora sponsored cultural programmes alongside the traditional temple festivities.
