Getting to a metro or bus station safely and comfortably can matter as much as the main journey itself.
What has been announced
RTA approved a five-year soft mobility plan extending related infrastructure to 25 residential areas, bringing the total targeted areas to 34 by 2030. The plan also includes upgrades around 63 public transport stations. Work is currently being implemented in Dubai Marina, Al Murar, Naif, Al Rigga and Al Muraqqabat.
Why it matters
Better walking, cycling and scooter connections can make public transport more practical for short trips and reduce dependence on cars for the first or last part of a journey. The quality of crossings, shade, paths, parking and accessibility will influence whether residents actually use the network.
What readers should know
Implementation will be phased, so residents should check local project notices. Safe use also depends on following designated routes, speed rules and parking requirements, particularly around busy station entrances.
MalluMetro Take
The plan is valuable because it treats mobility as a connected journey rather than a collection of separate modes. The strongest outcome will be safer, shaded and genuinely accessible routes that people choose in everyday life.
